Organization History
From a small grassroots initiative to an established human rights organization, explore the key moments in our development.
2008-2010
2008: The Seed of an Idea
A group of artists, activists, and educators came together with a shared vision to promote human rights through creative expression. They began organizing informal events and discussions in community centers.
2009: Formal Establishment
The HUMAN RIGHTS ARE UNIVERSAL ARTS FESTIVAL organization was officially registered as a non-profit organization, with a mission to promote human rights awareness and education through art and culture.
2010: First Festival
The inaugural Human Rights Are Universal Arts Festival was held, featuring local artists and focusing on freedom of expression. Despite its small scale, it laid the foundation for future growth.
2011-2015
2011: Educational Program Launch
We launched our first educational program, developing resources and workshops for schools to integrate human rights education into their curricula.
2013: International Expansion
The organization began collaborating with international partners, expanding the festival to include artists and speakers from around the world. This marked a significant step in our global reach.
2015: First Major Grant
We received our first major grant from a prominent foundation, allowing us to expand our programs and hire full-time staff to support our growing initiatives.
2016-2020
2016: Youth Leadership Academy
We established the Youth Leadership Academy, a flagship program that trains young people to become effective human rights advocates in their communities.
2018: New Headquarters
We moved into our current headquarters, a purpose-renovated space that includes offices, meeting rooms, a small gallery, and an event space for workshops and community gatherings.
2020: Digital Transformation
In response to global challenges, we accelerated our digital transformation, developing online programs, virtual exhibitions, and livestreamed events to reach audiences worldwide.
2021-Present
2021: Strategic Plan
We developed a five-year strategic plan with a focus on increasing our impact, diversifying our funding sources, and strengthening our organizational capacity.
2023: 10th Anniversary
We celebrated 10 years of the Human Rights Are Universal Arts Festival with our largest and most diverse program yet, reaching an audience of 10,000 people both in-person and online.
2025: Looking Forward
Today, we continue to grow and evolve, developing new programs, forging new partnerships, and finding innovative ways to promote human rights awareness and education through art and culture.
